Discover the Hidden World of Fungi: Woodland Walk & Campfire Session - an engaging introduction to the fascinating role of fungi in woodland ecosystems.
Join us for a 3.5-hour guided woodland walk where we’ll explore the secret life of fungi — how they grow, where to find them, and why they’re vital to the health of our woodlands.
Along the way, we’ll learn to identify a range of wild fungi, from species used in traditional fire-lighting and natural ink-making, to edible and toxic varieties. We’ll also look at the ecological role fungi play in soil health, plant partnerships, and biodiversity — as well as some of their stranger behaviours that make fungi some of the most intriguing organisms on the planet.
This is a hands-on, curiosity-led session designed for all levels of experience. Whether you're completely new to fungi or already a keen forager, you'll gain valuable insight into the complex and beautiful relationships fungi share with the environment — and with us.
We’ll wrap up the session around a campfire, where we’ll have time to reflect, ask questions, and (if conditions allow) try a fire-lighting demonstration using a special type of fungus. You’re welcome to bring along a picnic to enjoy by the fire as well.
