Hawkesbury Upton Literature Festival Christmas Special

Bethesda Chapel, Hawkesbury Upton

11am-3pm

The perfect opportunity to buy signed books as Christmas presents for all your friends and family, including a packed programme of author talks, readings and panel discussions.

Tea, coffee and cake are included in the ticket price, and you'll also receive a £2 book voucher valid at the event to get your shopping started with a bargain buy.

The Christmas Special will be held in the warm and cosy Bethesda Chapel, on Park Street, Hawkesbury Upton GL9 1BA. The Chapel has been beautifully refurbished this year, so it's even nicer now.

By popular request, this event will run from 11am until 3pm, to ensure no-one has to drive to or from the event in the dark. Fingers crossed for good weather, after Storm Darragh nearly blew us all away last year!

The quickfire programme will include talks and readings by the authors of books that would make terrific gifts for friends and family of all ages:

  • a moving memoir by Caroline Sanderson, Listen with Father: How I Learned to Love Classical Music, plus, for Jane Austen's 250th birthday, her biography, Jane Austen: The Life of a Literary Titan
  • humorous festive poems inspired by many Hawkesbury Christmases, in Jenny Harris's new book, A Poetry Collection for Christmas
  • hilarious domestic comedy novels in the Diary of a Stressed Out Mother series by Nicola Kelsall
  • a moving historical novel about the lives of women in 1960s Ireland, Mary Flood's To Love and Serve
  • a witty new cosy mystery set on a university campus in the 80s, A Brush with Death by Jean Burnett
  • a bestselling seasonal Cotswold mystery set around a Santa Run, Death at the Village Christmas Fair, by Debbie Young
  • empowering young adult fiction by Trevor Stubbs, including his latest scifi fantasy novel, Breatkthrough
  • popular animal stories for young children by Betty Salthouse, such as Parrot Talk and Mother Koala Knows Best

There'll also be brilliant readings by the ever-popular Gerard Boyce of some of his favourite Christmas classics.

Plus, four fresh new festive short stories will be performed by their authors: Stefania Hartley, Pauline Masurel, Mark Rutterford, and Betty Salthouse.

Tickets cost just £10 (plus a small booking fee) and include tea, coffee and seasonal cakes and biscuits, plus a £2 book voucher valid at the event. If you prefer to bring refreshments with you, that's fine too.

Advance booking is essential to make sure we have enough cake to go round! Click below to book your tickets now via Eventbrite.
